Gravenbrucher Kreis – a group comprising some of Germany’s foremost insolvency administrators and restructuring consultants – is inviting entries for the Gravenbrucher Kreis 2018 Research and Journalism Awards, which are being held this year for the sixth time. Awards will be presented in two categories – Research and Journalism – with prize money totalling €20,000. Entries must be submitted by 31 July 2018 – and the awards ceremony will be held in Berlin in November.

For the Research Awards, young scholars are invited to submit a doctorate related to German insolvency law. Entries must have been written at a university in the European Union and graded above average.

For the Journalism Awards, examples of journalism dealing with corporate restructuring and insolvency may be submitted. Entries must be in German and have appeared in the media.

“By holding the 2018 Research and Journalism Awards, Gravenbrucher Kreis is supporting scholarship in German insolvency law and highlighting especially good examples of journalism devoted to company restructuring and insolvency,” said Lucas Flöther, Chair of Gravenbrucher Kreis, explaining the aims behind the awards.

To qualify, entries must have been written between 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2018. The closing date is 31 July 2018. Full terms and conditions of the competition are posted on Gravenbrucher Kreis’s website at gravenbrucher-kreis.de/wettbewerbe.

The awards

The Gravenbrucher Kreis Research and Journalism Awards have been presented in these two categories every two years since 2008 and are being held this year for the sixth time.

The Research Awards are presented by Gravenbrucher Kreis to support young academics working in law and neighbouring subjects who have completed doctorates graded above average dealing with German insolvency law.

The Journalism Awards are open to journalists for features which have appeared in the print media, on television, the radio or the internet. As well as national media, entries are also invited from local and business journalists, who often spend months continuously investigating and reporting restructuring or insolvency cases.

The high-ranking jury for both competitions underlines the awards’ importance. The external members of the jury are:
